Patient Care Technician (PCT)
As a patient care technician course you will learn necessary skills to work directly with nurses in a variety of patient care settings. The Patient Care Technician Training is for individuals seeking higher levels of employment. Patient Care Technicians perform electrocardiograms, (ECGs), drawing blood,(venipunctures) making patients bed, performing oral care and denture care, setting up feeding tubes, emptying and measuring a urine drainage bag, passing medication, patient assessment, and taking vitals.
Patient care technicians support activities of daily living which include bathing, dressing, grooming, oral care, feeding, toileting/hygiene, and assisting with mobility and transport. They demonstrate standard precautions including the care of patients in isolation. They also perform technical duties as directed by RN/LPN. Identifying and communicating changes in a patient’s status to RN/LPN is a key function of the role.
Upon completion, students will receive a certificate of completion and will also need to pass the online national certification exam to allow students to work anywhere in the U.S and Canada.
