PROGRAM DESCRIPTION

Our Phlebotomy Technician Program teaches students the basics of phlebotomy. We emphasize patient safety, quality assurance, universal precautions, and standard precautions. Students are taught the evacuated tube method, the syringe method, to work with a winged infusion set, capillary blood collection, glucose testing, bleeding time, verifying the patient’s identity to ensure proper labeling of specimens and entry of information into a database, and talk with patients and donors to help them feel less nervous about having their blood drawn. They will collect and process lab specimens, instruct patients on specimen collection techniques, and conduct waived laboratory tests. Additionally, information processing, training, and quality control monitoring may fall within the purview of phlebotomists.  The Phlebotomy Technician program offers a flexible educational structure and job mobility.

At the completion of the program, the student will be awarded a  National Certificate of completion. Graduates are equipped to perform the duties of an entry-level phlebotomist. As a  member of the healthcare team,  Phlebotomists are employed by health clinics, hospitals, clinical laboratories, blood donation centers, nursing homes, insurance firms, academic institutions, and public health organizations.

Students who complete the program successfully are eligible for their National Certification that overview the scope of the proper way to draw blood.

Upon graduation, students will be regarded as qualified for entry-level careers as a Certified Phlebotomist Technician.
